Target group:

Electrical engineers, technicians and supervisory staff with responsibility for safe and efficient utilization of High Voltage distribution systems.

Course objective:

To enable participants to safely and efficiently undertake operational and maintenance duties on HV and LV electrical distribution networks & equipment.

Teaching method:

Power Point presentations with questions and answers for each subject and exercises utilizing Procedures and Permits

PROGRAMME:

• Electrical Hazards:  Shock/Arc Flash
• Calculation of fault levels
• Precautions and methods of control
• Use of Electrical Safety rules for HV/LV working
• Safety standard for isolation of HV electrical system
• Operation of switchgear, use of contactor/isolators, circuit breakers and HRC
• Generator capacity diagrams/standing load and available capacity
• Practical No 1: isolate & prepare a safe work place to undertake maintenance on a 6.6 KV/440 distributor transformer include the issue of any permits/precautions and switching programmes required.
