This is 02 days OPITO Competence Assessor course which provides an overview of the content and gives details of how to do the workplace Assessments when being OPITO Assessor; this course is good for senior role such as Lead, Supervisors, Team leader…etc.
Pre-requisite: Having competency system and participant should have experience as senior role and have been carrying out the planning and assessment.
Certificate: Delegates will receive an OPITO Competence Assessor certificate on the successful completion of their portfolio which meets the OPITO standard.
This award is appropriate for you if you:
- Are technically competent in the area you willassess
- Have access to two candidates with the samediscipline
- Are willing to carry out assessments and make assessmentdecisions
- Are prepared to ask questions as required to clarify an element of the standard(s) beingassessed
- Have the ability to judge whether the candidate’s performance/responses are acceptable and satisfy the requirements of the standard(s) beingassessed
- Have the ability to correctly complete the assessmentpaperwork/reports
- Are able to give and write constructive feedback to the candidate on the results of the assessment
- Can complete all requirements within 12months
- Have a basic understanding of the Englishlanguage

Delegates attending this Competence Assessor training programme will be given a series of explanations and demonstrations that will identify what they are expected to know and do.
This will be followed by practical exercises allowing delegates to rehearse their skills, knowledge and understanding of the Competence Assessor role. All practical exercises shall use, wherever possible, the actual paperwork that the delegates are expected to use in their workplace.
Assessment Requirements
Delegates will complete a 45-minute open book written test (in an invigilated environment), at the end of the two-day training programme, to test their underpinning knowledge of the theory Learning Outcomes (1-16) of the OPITO Competence Assessor Training Standard.
Workplace Evidence Requirements
Delegates are required to gather workplace evidence in order to achieve the skills-based Learning Outcomes (17-21) of the OPITO Competence Assessor Training Standard. They must submit, as a minimum, the assessment-related documentation listed below for two candidates they assess in the workplace:
- Assessment plans for eachcandidate
- Records showing that the assessments were carried out using a variety of methods but with observation and questioning being the minimum and prime sources of evidence and supporting secondary sources of evidence covering naturally occurring product evidence and simulation.
- Records showing how the individual assessment decisions werereached
- Records of assessment feedback to eachcandidate
- Verification of both assessments by the employing organisation’s representative who has the responsibility for the quality assurance of assessment decisions (this is a requirement but will not form part of the assessment decision)
The assessment evidence, generated in the workplace, is to be provided by the delegate or the organisation’s representative to the training provider as soon as possible but within twelve months of completion of the OPITO Competence Assessor training course.
Certification and Recording
An OPITO certificate will be issued to all delegates assessed as meeting the stated outcomes. The issue of a certificate indicates that the delegate has achieved the level of competence required to be recognised as an OPITO Certified Competence Assessor.
Certificates will contain the following information:
• Indicate the course is accredited by OPITO
• Training Centre Name • Full OPITO Course Title • OPITO Registration Code |
• Delegate’s Name
• Course Dates • Unique Certificate Number • Training Centre Signatory |
Delegates successfully completing OPITO-approved training and/or assessment events are registered by OPITO into the Vantage database. This database is Industry owned and is used by offshore employers to track and manage the movement and transportation of personnel to and from worksites. Employers and others can verify the training and competence records of personnel via the Vantage system, which is internet based and globally accessible.
